Welcome to the website of Dr Emil Popovic

I am a neurosurgeon working in Perth, Western Australia. From June 2008 my practice will be contracted down to purely operating privately at the Mount Hospital, which is an adult hospital.

I trained in Medicine at the University of Melbourne followed by postgraduate neurosurgical training in all of the Melbourne neurosurgical units. I also experienced a year of neurosurgery training in Perth in 1988, during which I learned to appreciate the wonderful lifestyle of Western Australia and where I met my wife Jane, a neurosurgery nurse.

After qualifying as a neurosurgeon in 1991, I underwent neurosurgical fellowship training at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, USA.

In 1993 I returned to Melbourne where I was a consultant neurosurgeon at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute until 2000. I have been working in Perth since January 2001.

I work closely with my brother, Dr Robert Popovic, who is a neuroanaesthetist and who gives most of my anaesthetics. After his anaesthetic training in Melbourne, Robert worked for two and a half years at the University of California in San Francisco, USA, where he did purely neurosurgery cases.
